The Way 🇰🇪

  • LEGION

If hate is poison then love is the cure
It’s You that drives demons from my door
    When they’ve got me cornered
    Surrounded and closing in
    Almost having me giving in
I feel You around me like a second skin
Life is a war & this world the warzone
But I’ve got a shield with me
When I just can’t go on fighting anymore
When I feel the bullets graze against me
I won’t surrender because Your love feels
    Like an army of angels

  • The Poet & the Poem

She asked me to write poetry on her skin
It was right after I’d kissed her waist
Telling her how her skin reminded me of smooth velvet paint
Of blue seas, white snow, yellow sunflowers and red wine
Every shade that made her a beauty to behold
She smiled because she knew the artist in me was talking
She took a pen and wryly gave it to me
Asking me to colour her with shades of poetry
I would’ve used kisses and finger trails instead of words for this poem
But when I looked at her, the brown in her eyes became my ink
And words knocked the doors on my fingertips
“Dandelions, protecting two infinity stones,” I wrote for her eyes
For her lips, “my glass of wine, oh my days, full forever”
On her shoulders, I wrote about my first time on a beach
The golden sandpaper and spilled ink bottle
I filled every inch of her skin, with words I’d picked on my way
Her spine read stories of our very first kiss
Rushed but real, like having Pizza when you’re hungry
Right below the spine were boulders of clouds
Her calves had flashbacks to the time we sent postcards to our hearts
Mountains and lost nomads echoed stories on her full chest
And the word ‘home’ on her wild raging heart
I wrote poetry on her sculpted body for hours
Until she became my poem inside and out
Then we made blissful love, literally and metaphorically

  • The Race

Get up, you haven’t lost at all
    For winning isn’t more than this;
To rise each time you fall
So up he rose once more
With a new commit in his heart
He resolved that whether he won or he lost
At least he would not quit the race
So far behind others he was now
The farthest he had ever been
Still he gave it all he had in the tank
And ran as though he was going to win
Three times he had fallen stumbling
Three times he rose again and carried on
Too far behind to hope to win
Yet he still kept on running to the end
They cheered on the winning runner
As he crossed the line to claim first place
Head held high, proud and happy
No stumbling, no falling, no disgrace
But when he crossed the line
Coming in last in the race
The crowd gave him even a greater cheer
For finishing the race he’d began
And even though he came in last place
With his head held low, sad and ashamed
You would’ve thought it was him who’d won
To listen to the cheers of the crowd
He indeed won, he rose each time he fell
For all of life is this race we run
With ups & downs & surprises along the way
All you have to do is keep on winning
Keep rising each time you fall

  • Jules

    You wear glasses
    So classy with awesome frames
But they don’t cover your eyes
    You speak so eloquently
    With such a smooth voice
But it doesn’t cover your heart
You laugh so heartily and carefree
That you infect those around you
But it doesn’t cover what you feel
    You wear very pretty dresses
    With such amazing floral patterns
But I still see you naked
For what you mean to cover
    Is never covered before me

  • So long

Of all the money that I had
I’ve spent it in good company
And all the harm that I’ve done
Alas it was to none but me
And all I’ve done for want of wit
To memory now I can’t recall
So fill to me the parting glass

Of all the comrades that ever I had
They are sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that ever I had
They would wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I’ll gently rise and I’ll softly call

A man may drink and not be drunk
A man may fight and not be slain
A man may court a pretty girl
And perhaps be welcomed back again
But since it has so ought to be
By a time to rise and a time to fall
Good night and joy be with you all

    Yes let’s show our faces,

    Our real imperfect faces.

  • Leave the Lights On

Happy new year good people. *** Story time… I know 2020 was quite the year, but I was willing to stay. I was the least excited to turn over a new page. Nothing about tomorrow seemed bright or remotely a good idea. I know 2020 was pretty difficult (for me just as much as many […]

  • Half a Heart

When you first came into my life
    You literally changed everything
It’s like we had invisible optic cables between us
Never had I ever experienced this type of connection
You were weekdays after class, Saturday afternoons and Sunday evenings
Your aura I felt safe in, free to be who I really am
I remember showing you sides of me
I had fearfully never showed anyone before
You knew the passwords to my darkness
You knew the grave secrets of my history
I would surf your waves so dangerously
Losing myself inside you, knowing you’d never judge me
Instead, you gave me access to your web of intricacies
And I fell for you so hard, I couldn’t catch myself
When you first told me your name, Mish
I told myself you were unlike any muse I’d ever seen
As naive as I was, I thought our connection was deeper than words
You were Special to me, and maybe you never knew
You told me I had to be patient, you were going through something
I didn’t even know what that meant
You had me wondering, is every daughter of His like this?
Maybe I was searching for everything I couldn’t find in my life inside you
Maybe you were like every woman I believe in who doesn’t exist
Now I can’t commit to anyone because it hurts to trust again
To try and find THAT connection with someone else
I honestly don’t want to care anymore
All I wanted was a good reborn African woman
I was hopelessly in love with you
But now I think it’s best if I let that love die

  • Never Alone

Do you feel like you’re all alone
Walking down a pitch dark endless road
On your way to meet no one really
Do you feel like life’s too tough to carry on
Like you’re watching on from the outside
And life is just slowly passing you by
Like you’re just breathing but barely alive
Like you’re desperately searching for answers
But you don’t know where to look to find them?
Well, I know of Someone just waiting
For you to kneel and surrender all
So He can lift you up
Set you free eternally once and for all
    Remove all hopelessness
He listens keenly to all your requests
He will answer prayers you’re unable to share
He hears your heart’s most secret fears
You are not too far down the road to be found
He will come meet you right where you are
Surround you with people who really care
You only need Him & everything will work out
His name is Jesus Christ our LORD and Saviour

  • Deep calls to Deep

The past is constantly playing with my head.
I am reminded of the wrongs I have said and done
The devil just won’t let me forget my shame
My mistakes are running through my mind
I relive my days in the middle of the night
Struggling with my pain and wrestling my pride
Failure knocks me down time and again
Sometimes I feel alone and shed a tear
I know what I have been in this life that I have lived
When I don’t fit in with the crowd around me
When I feel like I don’t belong anywhere
When I do not measure up to much in life
LORD, you are always here to remind me.
I don’t have to carry the weight of who I was
I am washed by the blood of Jesus Christ
I am completely forgiven and eternally set free
Even while I was yet with sin in my heart
Trying but in vain to bury Your Grace for me
I was still Treasure in the arms of Christ
And priceless in the Hands of the Father
